Seven suspects are currently being held for interrogation over the alleged disappearance of a 400 level students of Economics in this university, KWASU TIMES has learnt.
The suspects are helping the police to find clues to the whereabouts of Comfort Agada who went missing since August 2016 when she left Lagos for Malete at the resumption of the 2016/2017 academic session, and had not been seen since then.
KWASU TIMES was informed by a reliable source that the law enforcement agencies may have got strong clues linking the suspects in custody to the mysterious disappearance of the student.
Our correspondent learnt that the police and the operatives of the state security service are working hard and may charge the alleged suspects for Comfort’s ‘disappearance’.
A journey into the unknown
When Comfort left Lagos that fateful day, it was with full hope of commencing the last leg of her academic journey, but little did she, or the parents know that it was a journey into the unknown.
The parents tried to monitor her journey to be sure she arrived safely in Malete, but this was where the mystery began, as all efforts to ascertain her safe arrival was abortive. Her mobile phone was switched off.
Worried as to what was happening, the parents despatched two of her brothers to her off-campus accommodation in Malete to find out if she was there, but reports, as KWASU TIMES learnt, indicated that the room was never opened as it remained locked.
Conflicting reports abound as to whether Comfort arrived in Malete or not or was kidnapped or even eloped with someone. But why would a 400 level student elope with a man at the tail end of her education?
However, according to a reliable source who pleaded anonymity Comfort was seen the day she resumed on a bike by some people who corroborated the description of the dress she put on as given by her brother.
The source also said that they had searched all over the school premises and also her off-campus hostel but there was no traces of her at all which was very unusual and shocking to them because such had never happened before.
The source confirmed that Comfort brother came with some pastors to trace her whereabouts but the case appeared complicated by the fact that she stayed in off-campus accommodation while on 300 level.
Also, according to Oyindamola, a graduate of 2015/2016 set who was her roommate before she graduated said Comfort was the gentle type that did not relate with others or socialise with anyone.
Another source claimed that Comfort actually arrived in Malete but dropped at a different bus stop, not the one close to her off-campus hostel.
This claim however seemed believable in view of the discovery by the officials of KWASU Safety unit, the police and the men of the state security as well as the arrest of some suspects currently helping in the investigation.
The hunt yields some catches
The decision to track Comfort’s telephone number was a wise one as it yielded a clue. KWASU TIMES learnt that this move was initiated by KWASU Safety unit after the visit of Comfort’s brothers. The telephone appeared to have been used to make call(s) near two hostels (names of the hostels withheld) by someone.
Further tracking showed that the phone was used by someone who could be identified, hence some match-making was initiated and this tallied with the identity of a construction worker (names of worker and that of the construction company withheld).
The construction worker was picked up and further search of his house led to the discovery of Comfort’s SIM card in his room, but the construction worker claimed to have bought the telephone from someone. Further search with the telephone seller yielded a chain of connections which the police and the state security service are now investigating.
The matter is now being handled by the police headquarters in Ilorin and the state security service office. KWASU TIMES was reliably informed that the security agencies have vowed to follow the matter to logical conclusion. But Comfort is still missing two months after she left Lagos for Malete.
