The department of Mass communication, kwara state university, Malete plans to hold her first professional day in conjunction with the Mass communication students’ association (MACOSA).
The summit which is titled “MEDIA, FAKE NEWS AND 2019 GENERAL ELECTION” has been scheduled to hold on the 12th of April, 2019.
According to the department association’s president, Comrade Daranijo Habib who report that “the essence of the summit is to sensitize student journalist about the concept of fake news, it consequences and the effect in the past 2019 general election”
Comrade Daranijo added that “fake news has been part of the ruling contingency in the reportage pattern of many journalists today”
The president also noted that “the summit aims to bring three key media personnel, Sam Omatseye, Dr. Abubakar Jimoh and Chief Mrs. Moji Makanjuola from print and broadcast who are to talk to the students concerning fake news aim in the current media world because they are lots of new session journalists, bloggers who don’t have any ethical knowledge on the field of journalism.
The press club chairman and 400 level student of the department, Mr. Adedayo James expressed his view on the summit saying that the department has geared up a brilliant idea for the summit because most people who posed themselves to be an independent journalist have left audience in the darkness of truth and this has put many professional media organizations and journalist in hurdles.
Also a 200 level student of mass communication Odofin Ridwanullah added his view saying that “the summit is actually a good idea specially to tutor students who are training to be future journalist on news gathering but will be of good if such summit can also be arranged for media audiences who especially depends on it as their source of information”.
